Autopsy & Communication

Despite advances in diagnostic imaging, stillbirths often remain unexplained. While autopsy findings can offer valuable insights for the current and future pregnancies, parents may decline a postmortem examination, missing potential comfort it could provide. The growing demands on healthcare, especially during crises like pandemics, may lead physicians to accept these refusals more readily. However, culturally sensitive discussions about the importance of autopsies are essential, ideally supported by collaboration between pathologists and spiritual care teams. Though emotionally challenging, postmortem examinations are vital for improving diagnosis, guiding future care, and supporting the grieving process for families.

We are pleased to announce a call for chapter proposals for the upcoming open-access eBook, Autopsy & Communication. This volume will explore various aspects of communication in autopsy practice, including techniques for delivering sensitive information, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancements in forensic reporting.

As an open-access eBook, Autopsy & Communication will ensure free, global access to its content. A publication fee of USD 300 per chapter applies to cover production and maintenance costs.

We look forward to your contributions to this impactful resource.
